We have been plugging away at this recording studio thing and almost have another week under our belts. This program goes really quickly. That is probably partly because our days are so full of stuff, but I’m not complaining. It has been really great and I have learned a lot here at the school.
Today we learned about acoustic design and “proper” ways to design a studio. Earlier this week we were learning about the music business -how it works and how to get involved. We also added music, sound effects, and voice-overs to a Batman video game promo. That was a lot of fun.
I got 100% on our mid-term exam, so I feel really good about that, but I still feel like there is so much that I don’t understand very well. For the past two days I have been trying to meet with the instructors one-on-one to really utilize this time at the Recording Workshop as much as possible. The Assistant Director of the Workshop, Brian Brodie, has been awesome. I have learned a ton from him and he is just a super cool guy.
For our student projects we were asked to prepare 2 songs to record as a team. Our team is pretty diverse, so I was originally a little unsure of how all of that was going to work, but it has worked out really well. We wrote a country song called, “No Sax In Country Music” (which obviously features a sax). We also wrote a song called “Phantom Power” that is a very Indie Rock kind of laid back chill but big chorus type of song (also featuring a sax). I’m really excited about how they have turned out and I will be sure to post them after they are finished and mixed.
